Three students from the Diocese of Sale have been recognised for academic excellence at the Premier’s VCE awards. Recipients included Juan Limbo and Maximilian Mallan from St Francis Xavier College in Beaconsfield, and Mubasshir Murshed from Lavalla Catholic College in Traralgon.

Juan Limbo achieved a score of 50 in Health and Human Development in 2019, which his teacher, Siobhan Stephenson, said is a testament to Juan’s dedication.

“There wasn’t a single class last year when he didn’t ask a question. He asked questions about concepts, structures and contexts and worked diligently and at a consistently high level all year,” she said.

Max Mallan received a Premier’s award for his perfect score of 50 in Digital Media and Technology in VCE VET. He was one of only two students in the state to be recognised for achievements in Information, Digital Media and Technology.

According to his teacher, Garrie Mendez, Max hopes to pursue a career in the field, which amplified his motivation to succeed.

“He was always highly organised, asked a lot of questions and engaged actively in classes,” he said.

Mubasshir Murshed was among 28 recipients of the Top All-round VCE Achievers award. To receive the accolade, students had to achieve a study score of 46 or higher in at least five VCE subjects.

Another of Mubasshir’s notable achievements was being published in the Australian Mathematics Journal in 2019 for writing an equation that proved a parabola is the only shape with one focal point.

The Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Ms Maria Kirkwood, said she was pleased to see students within the Diocese striving to reach their full potential.

“These students are a shining example of our vision for students as engaged and successful learners who achieve their personal best, while drawing on the life-giving traditions and spirituality of the Catholic faith,” Ms Kirkwood said.
