Commissioning of Leaders - Catholic Education Week 2024


New Catholic Principals and Religious Leaders Commissioned



May 2024


Newly appointed Catholic School Principals, and Religious Education Leaders were formally commissioned in their school communities by the Catholic Bishop of Sale, Most Reverend Greg Bennet at Thanksgiving Masses held in the Diocese of Sale.

 

Masses were held at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Clyde North and St Mary’s Cathedral in Sale, bringing together education leaders and clergy to celebrate Catholic Education Week in the Diocese which ran from 17 May to 24 May 2024.

 

As a symbol of leadership, a Missionary Cross was presented to each new leader by Bishop Greg, assisted by the Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Mr Paul Velten.

 

Newly appointed Principals:

·         Doug Doherty – Principal, Nagle College, Bairnsdale

·         Shane Fyfe – Principal, St Michael’s Primary School, Heyfield

·         Anna Viney – Principal, St Catherine’s Primary School, Berwick

 

Newly appointed Religious Education Leaders

·         Mary (Tresa) Andrews – St Patrick’s Primary School, Pakenham

·         Roseanne Phillips – St Thomas’ Primary School, Sale (in absentia) 

·         Hannah Parrett – St Joseph’s Primary School, Wonthaggi

·         Rian Prestwich – St Catherine’s Primary School, Berwick

·         Janelle Szkwarek – Lumen Christi Primary School, Churchill

 

Mr Velten said Catholic Education Week was an important time to reflect and celebrate the Catholic identity within school communities in the Diocese of Sale and continue to embrace the mission of providing a faith-filled and inspiring education to students.

 "The leadership and dedication of our newly appointed principals and religious education leaders serve as a shining example of our commitment to nurturing the hearts and minds of our students in the Diocese of Sale.”
